Quick facts

The house grew from two medieval buildings, from 1454 and the early 1500s, joined into one by a 17th-century addition.

It takes its name from Charles II's stay in Rochester on his way to London in 1660 at the Restoration.

It is said to be the model for Miss Havisham's Satis House in Great Expectations.
