Quick facts

A parachute mine in January 1941 blew the roof off the nave, south aisle and chapter house; of British cathedrals only Coventry was damaged more.

Jacob Epstein's Christ in Majesty stands above the nave on a concrete arch designed by George Pace.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti designed a triptych for the cathedral, The Seed of David.
