Quick facts

The barrage is 1.1 km long and carries a walking and cycling route across the mouth of the bay to Penarth.

Built between 1994 and 1999, it impounds the Taff and Ely to create a freshwater lake of about 200 hectares.

A fish pass lets salmon reach their breeding grounds in the Taff.
