Quick facts

Vintage steam trains run from Swanage station about six miles through the Purbeck countryside, past the ruins of Corfe Castle.

Durlston Country Park, a National Nature Reserve on the clifftops above town, has a Victorian castle with rooftop sea views and a 40-tonne stone Great Globe.

The town has a sandy seafront with a promenade, beach huts and deckchairs, and a Victorian pier that reopened in 1998.
