Who we are
Take a Day (takeaday.app) is an independent project run by Anzhelika Besedina. It helps people find day trips from London they can reach in the time they have. For anything about your data, write to hello@takeaday.app.
What we collect, and why
We keep this to the minimum the site needs.
- Your email, if you sign up for early access. We use it for one thing: to tell you when Take a Day opens. We don’t send newsletters, and we never sell or share it. The sign-up form is provided by Tally, which stores your address for us. We rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- A problem you report. If you use “Report a problem”, we receive what you write, the page you were on, and your screen size and browser — so we can find and fix it. Your email is optional and used only to reply to you. The form is provided by Tally, which stores the report for us. We keep reports until the problem is dealt with.
- A place you suggest. If you use “Suggest a place”, we receive what you tell us about it and the page you were on. Photos you add are kept to look at, and published on Take a Day only if you tick the box allowing it — credited to the name you give, and stripped of location and camera data first. Your email is optional and used only to tell you when the place is added. The form is provided by Tally, which stores it for us.
- Hearts you give. When you give a place a heart, we store it against a random number your browser keeps, so you can take it back and can’t give two. That number says nothing about you, and nothing else is stored with it.
- How the site is used, without identifying you. We count visits and a few actions — which pages are opened, which filters are chosen — with Umami, an analytics tool that uses no cookies and collects no personal data. It never records what you type into the search or where you are. We do this in our legitimate interest of understanding what works.
- Your choices, in your own browser. The starting point, travel mode and filters you pick are remembered in your browser’s storage so the map opens as you left it. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.
- Your location, only if you choose to share it. If you press “Use my location”, your browser asks first. Your position is used in your browser to pick the nearest starting point, and it is not stored or sent to us.
Who else handles data
Like any website, Take a Day relies on a few services. Each of them sees your IP address when your browser connects to them, and handles it under its own privacy policy:
- Vercel, which hosts the site.
- Cloudflare, which runs the domain and forwards email sent to it.
- Tally, which provides the early-access, problem-report and suggestion forms and stores what is sent through them.
- Umami, which counts visits as described above.
- CARTO, which serves the map background.
Cookies
Take a Day sets no cookies of its own, so there is no cookie banner. The Tally sign-up form, when you open it, is covered by Tally’s own policy.
How long we keep it
Your email is kept until we have told you that Take a Day is open, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. Usage counts in Umami contain nothing that identifies you.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw your consent — write to hello@takeaday.app and we will reply within a month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If what we collect changes, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
