Quick facts

Turner Contemporary opened on 16 April 2011 beside the harbour and was designed by David Chipperfield Architects.

It stands near where J.M.W. Turner lodged in Margate, and its windows look out over the same sea and sky he painted.

It is described as the largest exhibition space in the South East outside London.
