Quick facts

Geologists have identified 71 rock layers at Lyme Regis, each containing fossils of a different ammonite species.

Fragments of ammonites, some as big as dinner plates, can be spotted in seawashed boulders on the beaches west of the Cobb.

The cliffs along this shore are part of the Jurassic Coast, and the beach is the place to look for fossils at low tide.
