Quick facts

The museum opened in 1984 as the D-Day Museum and reopened as The D-Day Story in March 2018 after a refurbishment backed by a £5 million Heritage Lottery grant.

Its centrepiece, the Overlord Embroidery, is 272 feet (83 metres) long and took twenty members of the Royal School of Needlework seven years to complete.

The landing craft LCT 7074 stands outside, and visitors can explore its tank deck, upper deck and bridge.
