England's oldest almshouse, still home to its Brothers in black and claret robes and still giving bread and ale to wayfarers who ask.

Founded around 1132-36 by Henry of Blois, Bishop of Winchester, it is described as England's oldest almshouse.
Its 12th- and 13th-century church is in Transitional Norman and Gothic style, more like a miniature cathedral than an almshouse chapel.
Anyone who asks at the Porter's Lodge can still receive a small horn cup of ale and a piece of bread, the Wayfarer's Dole.
