Quick facts

By the 13th and 14th centuries Sandwich was a prosperous town fortified with walls and gates, and remnants of them survive.

The Butts and the Ropewalk follow part of the old town boundary and make an unusual public walk around the town.

The Butts was a medieval archery field, believed to be where Henry V's bowmen practised before sailing to Agincourt.
