HMS Alliance, a post-war Amphion-class submarine, stands raised out of the water on stilts and can be toured with a submariner as guide.
HMS Holland 1, the Royal Navy's first submarine, is kept in a climate-controlled building opened in 2001 and visitors can step on board.
The museum complex opened in August 1981 beside HMS Dolphin, which was the Submarine Service's home from 1904 to 1999.
