King George IV gave Ramsgate the title Royal Harbour in 1821 after the hospitality shown to him when he sailed from and returned to the harbour.
Ramsgate was a chief embarkation point for the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation, and its lifeboat station was founded in 1802.
The Royal Harbour Marina has 700 berths, and the Clock House stands on the quayside.
