Quick facts

Robert Adam's design was built between 1769 and 1774.

It is one of only four bridges in the world with shops across its full span on both sides, the others being the Ponte Vecchio, the Rialto Bridge and the Krämerbrücke.

A sub-floor is built into the masonry between the arches, and round windows under each arch show where it is.
