The park was laid out for the banker Joseph Pitt's Pittville estate, developed between 1825 and 1842.
Pittville Lake was made between 1825 and 1827 by damming Wyman's Brook, and a separate boating lake opened in 1895.
Cheltenham Council bought the park in 1890 for £5,000, and it is now a Grade II registered park.
