North Foreland marks the eastern extremity of the Isle of Thanet, and a lighthouse was first licensed on the headland in 1636.
The present 26-metre tower was first lit in 1691.
It was automated in 1998 as the last manned Trinity House lighthouse in the UK, and the keepers' cottages are now holiday lets.
