A rare twin-mound Norman castle rising above a medieval Sussex town, offering sweeping views across the South Downs.

The castle was built by William de Warenne after the Norman Conquest, inside the walls of the earlier Saxon town.
Unusually, it has two mottes, or earth mounds, rather than one, each later topped with a stone shell keep.
You can climb to the top of the keep for panoramic views across Sussex, and a 14th-century barbican gate guards the entrance.
