Quick facts

Kingsgate is one of only two medieval city gates still standing in Winchester, the other being Westgate.

The tiny church of St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate sits above the arch, reached by a staircase, and is Grade I listed.

Anthony Trollope used the church as St Cuthbert's in his novel The Warden.
