Quick facts

Excavations at Coppergate between 1976 and 1981 uncovered Viking-age timber buildings and over 40,000 objects.

Visitors travel in carriages through a reconstructed Viking settlement with sounds, smells and animated figures.

The centre reopened in 2017 after flooding in December 2015, with a longer ride set in the year 975.
