Since the 2022 reopening, a timber roof deck inside the tower gives 360-degree views over York's skyline.
The stone keep, built in the 13th century on a Norman mound, has a four-lobed quatrefoil plan.
In March 1190 the wooden tower on this mound was the last refuge of York's roughly 150 Jewish residents, and it was burned during a riot.
