Quick facts

The garden covers 40 acres and holds a living collection of over 8,000 plant species from around the world.

At its present site it opened to the public in 1846, replacing a much smaller garden founded in 1762 in the city centre.

It is open daily apart from a short break over Christmas and New Year.
