A ruined Henry VIII artillery fort out on the marsh, now about a mile from the sea it was built to guard.

Henry VIII had a first tower built here between 1512 and 1514, then expanded and rebuilt the fort in 1539–43.
The fort is a concentric design, with a central keep, four stirrup towers and four larger bastions.
Silting and a retreating coast left the castle about a mile from the sea, and its outside can be reached on footpaths from Rye.
