Quick facts

The Edwardian Baroque building opened in 1905 and was designed by Frederick Wills, with money from the tobacco baron Sir William Henry Wills.

Entry is free, and the Egyptology gallery, rebuilt in 2007, holds mummies.

In summer 2009 the museum hosted Banksy versus Bristol Museum, a show kept secret until it opened, where some visitors queued up to seven hours.
