Quick facts

The reserve opened on 10 November 1976, and Sir Peter Scott helped design its exhibits, hides and natural areas.

Guided boat safaris run through the wetland habitats, and a hide gives close views of a sand martin colony.

Water voles were reintroduced here between 1999 and 2005, and kingfishers, great egrets and gadwall are among recent sightings.
