Quick facts

Joseph Hansom designed the cathedral in French Gothic style for the 15th Duke of Norfolk, and it was dedicated in 1873.

It became a cathedral in 1965, when the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton was created, and is now dedicated to Our Lady and St Philip Howard.

It stands on the hill beside the castle and is one of the best-known examples of Gothic Revival architecture in England.
