Quick facts

Native oysters are served around the harbour and beach, and the nine-day Oyster Festival each July opens with a parade and the Landing of the Catch.

West Beach has a postcard row of pastel-coloured beach huts, and the beachfront Old Neptune pub is a favourite spot for watching the sunset.

At low tide you can walk half a mile out to sea along The Street, a shingle spit, and the town is about an hour and a half by train from London Victoria.
