Quick facts

At the summer solstice the sun rises behind the Heel Stone and sends its first rays into the heart of the circle, drawing thousands of people each June.

The exhibition shows over 250 objects found in the surrounding landscape, and reconstructed Neolithic houses show how people lived here 4,500 years ago.

The giant sarsens, which average 25 tons, most likely came from West Woods near Marlborough, while the smaller bluestones were brought from the Preseli Hills in Wales.
