Get directionsA rippling wall of white chalk peaks and dips runs along the Sussex coast, the remains of dry valleys that the sea is slowly cutting away.
The cliffs are part of the South Downs National Park and are left to erode naturally, so the clifftop walk from Cuckmere Haven towards Birling Gap and Beachy Head has views over the Channel the whole way.
The cliffs often stand in for the White Cliffs of Dover on screen, appearing in films including Atonement and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
