Quick facts

A gentle clifftop walk of about 3.5 miles from Studland, taking one to two hours, leads out to the chalk stacks and back over the ridge of Ballard Down.

The stacks stand at the eastern edge of the Jurassic Coast, England's only natural World Heritage Site, and are the first major landmark for walkers starting the South West Coast Path from the east.

Old Harry's Wife stood beside him until 1896, when erosion brought her down, and on a clear day the views take in the Isle of Wight and The Needles, which were once joined to this chalk.
