Quick facts

A car-free clifftop walk along the White Cliffs of Dover leads to the lighthouse, with a tea room beside it for the stop at the end.

In 1858 it became the first lighthouse in the world to try electric light, in a trial that ran into 1860.

Guglielmo Marconi ran wireless experiments here in 1898 and 1899, including some of the first radio signals sent across the English Channel to France.
