Quick facts

The National Trust owns almost every building in the village, so its streets of historic houses, pubs and shops stay much as film-makers have found them, from the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice to Harry Potter.

Lacock Abbey's medieval cloister stood in for Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films, and the house has a Gothic Great Hall and a Tower Room with a unicorn ceiling.

The Fox Talbot Museum at the abbey gates tells the story of photography, which began here when William Henry Fox Talbot made the earliest surviving negative in 1835, of a window in the South Gallery.
