Quick facts

The moated castle was Anne Boleyn's childhood home, and its gatehouse has what is described as the oldest working original portcullis in England.

The Italian Garden was built to show William Waldorf Astor's Greek and Roman statues, and it runs down to a 38-acre lake that around 800 men took two years to dig.

The 125 acres also hold a walled rose garden of over 5,000 bushes, a yew maze planted in 1904 and a Water Maze where the aim is to reach the folly without getting wet.
